Observation Ended

My observation period has ended. So, I've moved onto making shirts, headbands, clips, etc.

I would love to sell these. If anybody out there would like one, we could talk about pricing.

Monday after St. Patrick's

On Monday before the children arrive in the classroom, I will replace the gold in their leprechaun traps with green and gold eggs filled with Lucky Charms.  The children will get to enjoy this treat during their snack time.  A magically delicious snack!

St. Patrick's Day Lesson

I used a St. Patrick's Day theme to teach sequence with my kinder class.  I cut out shamrocks with numbers on them and placed them in a circle; the children skipped around them until the Irish music I was playing stopped.  The each picked up their shamrock and waited for me to call on them.  The students were to tell the class what number they had and where it goes on the number line.  After this activity, I read the class, "The Night Before St. Patrick's Day."  In the book, the children make Leprechaun traps in hopes to capture the Leprechaun.  My students made Leprechaun traps out of green plastic cups and decorated them with St. Patrick's Day stickers and gold/green stickers.  The students then placed gold coins and items inside their cups.  The children had a lot of fun with this lesson.

Dr. Seuss' 108th Birthday!

In honor of Dr. Seuss' 108th birthday on March 2nd, I will be reading, "And to Think I Saw it on Mulberry Street" to the class.  I'm doing my research on Dr. Seuss' and will present the children with background information.  I may also give the student's an activity sheet(s) to color/work on during center time or at home.

Monkey Matching

This is a matching game. The cards are to be placed with the monkey and banana stickers face up. After this is done, choose a card which has each sticker. Does the number match the amount of bananas? Students may also choose to put the cards in order by number or banana amount.

Craft Fun!

Yesterday I bought all of the supplies needed for the student's to make their picture dictionaries. I also bought supplies to make a game: Match the correct number of bananas to the number on the back of the foam monkey. And in honor of St. Patrick's Day, the student's will listen to the story, "The Night Before St. Patrick's Day" and build leprechaun traps (like the children in the book).

Hop To It!

I just posted a simple worksheet on teacherlingo.com.  The student simply matches the amount of Easter eggs in the basket to the correct number on the right.  There are additional numbers on the right.  The teacher may do with these as she pleases, such as using them to review or asking students to draw eggs, etc.  It's titled Hop To It! and it's only $.50!

I also lowered the price of my lesson plan to $1.00.

HELPPPP!!! iPhone down!

Does anybody know how long I should let my iPhone sit in a bag of rice?  I dropped it in my drink earlier trying to multitask...looks like I shouldn't do that again.
A few days ago I submitted a short story to Yahoo!.  If you'd like to read it, you can view it here.  It's about a dusty old down called Sarsaparilla Pastures.  Please leave me some feedback either on the story or here on the blog post.  Thank you!

Integrated English/Science Lesson Plan

I recently joined a website where I can upload some of my content (ex: flash cards, lesson plans) to sale them.  Today, I uploaded my lesson plan for a Pre-K to Kinder class to teach an integrated English and Science lesson.  This is the lesson I posted about yesterday where the student's in the class will make and learn to use a picture dictionary.  Excited! :)

If you'd like to view the website, it's Teacher Lingo.

Picture Dictionary

This coming March, I will put my first lesson plan into effect.  I'll be teaching the students about animals and how to make/use a picture dictionary.  I'll be reading the book, "There's a Cow in the Road!" by Reeve Lindbergh.

This was one of my favorite books as a child; six animals are introduced through the book.  The animals introduced will be the animals included in the students picture dictionaries.  I'll post a picture of the picture dictionary as soon as I can along with feedback from the student's and how well it worked.

Let's get this started...

I've recently started observations at an elementary school as part of my college education.  By creating this blog, I'm hoping I can post some pictures and descriptions of cute crafts or projects that can aid in the education of young children.
